For the third time in four years Robert Merola designed the YMCA Retirement Fund’s Annual Report. The theme for the report is Weathering The Storm. The 36 page report contained dozens of duo-tone photographs of board members as well as clear, concise financial charts and graphs. Merola’s photograph featured on the cover is a composite of three different shots taken off the coast of Long Island’s Fire Island Lighthouse.
Merola also designed the 2006, 2008 as well as the funds 85th anniversary logo.

A great article and smart discussion regarding the relationship between stillness and motion. After reading the dialog about the new Comedy Central logo redesign and accompanying motion graphic presentation, It becomes clear that the role of corporate identity has move up from the corner of the page in to a dynamic brand navigator that reveals and enhances the entire consumer experience.

New Website design for the Tides Center’s Inner Resilience Program. The mission of the program is to cultivate the inner lives of students, teachers and schools by integrating social and emotional learning with contemplative practice. Since its inception, they have offered 5,000 educators and 1,500 parents the tools, skills, and experiences necessary to strengthen their own inner resilience and to model these practices to the children in their care.

New Website design for NJ Manufacturer Carfaro
Rebranding of Carfaro Fencing, Railing and Gate manufacturer began with a new tag line, corporate identity, signage, truck graphics and product binders. Advertisements, trade show booths and sales tools were also designed by Merola Design.

A New York Times reporter sits down with typography gurus, Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones to discuss some of the challenges facing graphic and web designers. Inconsistent rendering of typefaces due to different operating systems, web browsers and different user settings. View the Times article.
Three tips I have: 1– Reset your browser zoom setting, this at least renders the same sized type that the designer intended. 2– Upgrade to Firefox or Safari, any browser but Explorer. 3– Check to see that your monitor is set to it’s highest resolution setting. I’m always amazed to see how many people never bother to check this setting.

New York’s Agave Restaurant in the West Village, features close to 40 tequilas and a strong southern fusion menu. Agave is located at 140 Seventh Avenue South.

“Security, Integrity and Enduring Value” is the theme for the 2008 YMCA Retirement Fund’s Annual Report. Charts and graphs are featured demonstrating the strength of the fund over the past 85 years. Vintage photos and art from the YMCA library reenforces the theme.
