Designing logos and web sites for lawyers and law firms today is different then it was even just a few years ago. A list of partner names set in Times New Roman or Copperplate doesn’t cut it anymore. Firms need to differentiate from one another, develop a solid brand strategy and have a personality.

Hudson Law, LLC specializes in intellectual property cases and needed a clean presentation of what exactly they offer to their clients. The use of simple drawings throughout the site illustrated the concept effectively, “IP Protection from the sketch on a paper napkin to revenue, choose Hudson Law.” Merola Designed the website. Visit the Hudson Law website.

When parents are looking for a preschool for their child, word of mouth recommendations from local parents are key. Parents want to know that the school is safe, clean and professional. Most preschool marketing materials do not communicate these quality traits. A relatively small investment in these materials can go a long way in helping parent choose the right school for their children early education needs.

Established by the Rev. Forrester Church of the All Souls
Unitarian Church on September 29, 1985.
Formed only four years after the Center for Disease Control issued clinical evidence of a new disease, now known as AIDS. It was the first faith-based AIDS task force in Manhattan.
The first major action of All Souls’ AIDS Task Force was a public education campaign in which 10,000 placards were placed in this city’s buses and subways.
The graphic designed by Robert Merola, was used on large banners and lapel pins and helped promote and raise funds for the organization.

The New York Times has again managed to blow my mind with another interactive map. Using data gathered from the 2005 to 2009 Census. Matthew Bloch, Shan Carter and Alen McLean are credited with the map and have displayed and unbelievable amount of information beautifully.

Drill downs on data, street by street, city by city illustrate an unprecedented view of the country.
Look at where you live to discover the education and income levels of your neighbors.

Data points include:
Race and Ethnicity– White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and foreign born populations.

Income Median household incomes, Change in median household incomes, Households earning under $30,000 and household earning over $200,00 and change in those incomes.
Housing and Families Median home value, Change in median home value, Median monthly rent, Mortgage change, and reported Same sex couples.
Education High school graduates, Bachelor’s or higher, Masters or higher and Private schools.

It will be fascinating to see what kind of useful information can be drawn from such an immense set of data.

One of the tenets of the open source movement is to share and freely distribute information so that new technologies can develop and flourish and bring deeper understanding to the world.

After about an hour of looking at the maps I haven’t scratched the surface. I would love to hear any of your observations.
